AmeriCorps Service Description – Free Tax Preparation Volunteer Coordinator

LISC AmeriCorps Service Description

Full-Time Member Position

November 1, 2013 – August 31, 2014

Local Initiatives Support Corporation and United Way of Greater Toledo are seeking a full-time AmeriCorps member to serve as Free Tax Preparation Volunteer Coordinator.

United Way of Greater Toledo (UWGT) started the Information   & ReferralCenter, First Call For Help in 1970 as a program dedicated to assist people in finding necessary resources available in our community to help them.  On March 15, 2005, UWGT launched this service as United   Way 2-1-1.  United Way 2-1-1 continues as an information and referral source which provides current and accurate information of available health and human care services, by telephone, online, and to walk-in clients.

United Way 2-1-1 also works to maximize the effectiveness of human services by documenting unmet needs, advocating on behalf of our clients to receive needed services, and as a resource for information to human service professionals.  We employ well-trained and caring staff members to provide one-on-one, efficient and confidential access to accurate information.  We also maintain a computerized resource database on human care services available to residents of our service area which is updated regularly.

Local Initiatives Support Corporation (LISC) is dedicated to helping community residents transform distressed neighborhoods into healthy and sustainable communities of choice and opportunity — good places to work, do business and raise children.  LISC combines corporate, government and philanthropic resources to help community-based organizations revitalize underserved neighborhoods. This strategy extends to the LISC AmeriCorps program where we support placing AmeriCorps Members with local non-profit partners.
